Lunar New Year
2024 Lunar New Year begins on February 10
and culminates on the 15th day of the first lunar month with the Lantern Festival. It is based on astronomical observations of the Sun's longitude and the Moon's phases. The holiday began as a time for feasting and to honor household and heavenly deities, as well as ancestors.
Lunar New Year is celebrated among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean. China’s Lunar New Year is known as the Spring Festival or Chūnjié in Mandarin, while Koreans call it Seollal and Vietnamese refer to it as Tết.
This new year is represented by the zodiac animal dragon for Chinese and Vietnamese cultures.
